This year I was helped by Libby aged 9 and Lilly aged 6 who made no complaint at getting up at dawn to help Grandpa! Our count is just for The Meadow and Marsh reserves;
37 species !!! Previously all this land was a sterile monoculture, wheat, barley or potatoes NO WILDLIFE This is what we can achieve and it only takes a few years!
This year more Whitethroat, Willow warblers not Sedge warblers. More Chiffchaff, Chaffinches and a lot more Greenfinches but so far no Linnets or Blackcaps. Snipe are a first for spring (usually winter). We now have year round Goldfinches, possibly because of the Teasel planting. Just a few Corn Bunting. A pair of Shellducks flew over.
Happy Easter David
